The Sway

The Sway (Classified #1)The Sway by Ruby Knight
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Sway follows CIA special agent Julia as she learns to navigate teen life in a secret government program. This book had some of the typical tropes that many YA novels have like love triangles, ‘mate for life’ and ‘chosen’ special quippy girl that everything revolves around. If you love those elements, this is the book for you.

I didn’t necessarily mind those elements nor do I love reading them in every YA novel but I was intrigued to see where she took the X-men type, mutant children must save the world plot. The world building and world order pieces also held intrigue for me so I kept reading. The romance triangle was okay but I feel like will be better in the sequel based on where the relationships were left at the end of the story.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read and I want to know where the story and love triangle goes. I would like to see Ruby break out of the tropes and do something different with this series. For now, we are off to an average start, but I see potential for this series. It’s worth a look.
